The parish choir guides all of us in the liturgical worship of the Orthodox Church, and helps us to glorify and praise our God at the Divine Liturgy and other services of the Orthodox Faith. The ministry of the entire parish choir, along with the essential work of our parish chanters, guides us all into communion with God and each other. All parishioners are encouraged to join.
The following is an excerpt from some notes found in old files at the home of Ray and Anita Stevens. They provide us a sneak peak at the St. Mary Choir in the early 20th century:
In 1937 St. Mary's first choir was started and taught by Fr. Nicholas Husson. All songs were sung in Arabic with no music and no director. The Members were Lorraine Husson, Beulah Husson, Anita Stevens, Ernie Namee, Virginia & Vivian Husson and Eugenie Stevens. The choir grew. In 1950, Fr. Michael Husson was encouraged by Mrs. E.G. Stevens, who purchased an organ. In 1956 there was a choir contest between St. George and St. Mary, directed by Ernest Namee.
